AI has revolutionized the way we work regardless of our profession: ChatGPT is answering our questions and giving us intelligent answers, however machine translation, text recognition and text prediction was already helping us in the past decade.
These notes I’ve taken during the course “AI for Executives” which I have enrolled in my Technology Management masters in ETH Zürich in the 2024 Spring Semester. The course has brought me a much broader understanding of AI and their business applications, and I wish it has the same impact with others as well.
What is AI?
We can take up artificial intelligence in 2 main categories:
- ANI (Artificial narrow intelligence): also known as the narrow AI, ANI is the intelligence designed for specific tasks only. During the last decade(s), we have already saw the examples of ANI in our daily lives:
- Automated shopping recommendations, Amazon, 2000s,
- Dynamic ad allocation and pricing, Google, 2010,
- Self braking cars by Tesla, 2015, and
- the intelligent Chatbot ChatGPT, by OpenAI, 2022.
AGI (Artificial general intelligence): AI that can perform as well or better than humans on a wide range of cognitive tasks. We can recall AGI from the famous movie of the 80s “The Terminator”. 50 years after its launch, an artificial intelligence that can perform in a wide range is still a science fiction.
